New Soul Communicator - ONUTSS
Soul Communicators is a special section of SoulTracks that gives deserved recognition to some of the disc jockeys, writers and entrepreneurs around the world who are dedicating their careers to keeping Soul Music alive and thriving.
One Nation Under the Soul Shack (ONUTSS)
It's tough to believe that New York-based independent music promotion company, One Nation Under The Soul Shack (ONUTSS) has just been around since August 2006. The founders, Detrel Howell and Pamela Nichols, have made such an impact bringing music loving audiences and independent artists together that it seems like they've been on the scene forever. Their "listening parties" have grown to must-see after work events and New York music fans have looked to the duo to introduce them to the best in indie soul artists. Importantly, ONUTSS never charges an admission fee, asking the audiences instead to purchase the performing artists' CDs.
First year events included listening parties with a "who's who" of indie soul, including Choklate, Marcell and The Truth, Mike Hammond, Brown Baby Girl Eric Roberson, Gordon Chambers, Myoshi Marilla, Brown Rice, Elisabeth Withers, Antonia Jenae, Jeremiah, June April, Karen Bernod, Maya Azucena, Rahbi, Anthony Dixon, Ty Causey, Melissa Young, Jerome and Kendra Ross. And in early 2007, ONUTSS hosted Kevin Harewood's book release party for Make Your Move!!! and later in the year joined forces with Greenehouse Entertainment for a screening of the documentary, Before The Music Dies.
If music has a reputation as a cutthroat business, than Pam and Trel prove that there is a place for good people doing good things to advance the cause of soul music. It's been only a little over a year...but what a year!

Thank you, Chris! We are having a great time doing what we love--sharing our love with those who may not be familiar with independent soul music. We are always looking for new audiences, because we truly believe that word of mouth if one of the best advertising tools around.
Detrel and I appreciate your support, Chris!

Sending much love and a BIG, BIG CONGRATS to my ladies in NYC for being honored as a SoulTracks Communicator. Pam and Trel I am so very proud of you ladies. I am filled with joy and pride as I sit here and watch you grow as a valued and treasured promotional entity. I know I speak for myself as well as the many artists that you have hosted, promoted and assisted in becoming household names. We are all very blessed and grateful for ONUTSS to have created a platform where artists can be heard, exposed and treated with respect and dignity. This industry can be cold but when artists come to the Soul Shack they are met with smiles, warmth, kindness and the full attention of an audience that truly appreciates their craft and contributions to music. Ladies, you took the bull by the horns 1 year ago and you haven't let go yet. Thank you for the dedicated work that you do. It is priceless.
Love and Respect Always
Tracy
